As mentioned in my last Post from Yabucoa, I am exploring the southeast coast in more detail. Thanx to Tony, we were able to hang around a couple extra days.
Hwys 3 & 901 along the coast between Patillas and Yabucoa.
Highway 3 (and Hwy 901) has to be one of the most beautiful drives on the entire island.
It is mentioned in several travel guides as a ‘Must See’. It meanders along the coast sometimes running up the mountain to avoid the sheer cliffs below, then back down to the shoreline. It is peppered with weekend bars and restaurants of all kinds

The ‘Maps Page’ update is finally done.. Whew!
I knew the day I posted my first PR map to the Web that it would eventually need corrections. All of that work was done before ever leaving Alaska. It was a ‘best guess’ based on what I could find on the Internet. ‘Boots on the ground’ make all the difference. This new map is not perfect either. It’s as much ‘a work of art’ as it is topographically accurate. It reflects what I know today. At some point it will ‘evolve’ again.

The Old Sugar Mills & Plantations of PR, Part 3
As mentioned in my 2 previous posts, the area in South East PR was home to the last Sugarcane haciendas (plantations) and sugar mills.
If Guayama was the epicenter of this climatic chapter in PR’s history, then Arroyo was its ‘port of call’ on the coast. The commercial port at Aguirre Central did not come into being until the early 1930’s.
The ‘Welcome to Arroyo’ sign is a sculpture commemorating buccaneers of the sea and days gone by.
Profiteering & smuggling were very much a part of its past!
